Berks Jazz Festival, 2022 Yokum Institute with the band I assembled to play charts written by arrangers that wrote for the Buddy Rich band. Two different camera angles were used to give a general overview & an up-close shot of the musicians performing.

Beginner
Eight on a Hand
Variations
- Precede this line with an 8th-note rock beat.
- Take taps around the drum set utilizing toms and cymbals.
- Experiment with expression.
- Keep steady time with bass and hi-hat.
- Place one measure on a single pitch.
- Utilize two pitches in the same measure.
- Utilize three pitches in the same measure.
- Utilize four pitches in the same measure.
Intermediate
Single/Double/Triple Paradiddles
Variations
- Precede the paradiddle exercise with a paradiddle rock beat. (Place the right hand on the hi-hat and the left hand on the snare. Play paradiddles between the hands and have the bass drum play at the same time as the hi-hat. Don't forget to place an accent on counts 2 and 4 with the left hand on the snare drum.)
- Take accents to toms.
- Take accents to cymbals with bass drum support.
- Take doubles to toms.
- Split doubles on toms.
- Place single taps on toms and doubles on the snare.
- Place accents on the snare and single and double taps on toms.
- Place accents on cymbals, single taps on toms, and doubles on snare.
- Place accents on cymbals, single taps on snare, and doubles on toms.
Advanced
Duple Sequencing
Variations
- Precede each line with 2 measures of a 16th note rock beat.
- Place double beats (diddles) on 1 tom.
- Place combinations of 2 or more diddles on different toms.
- Split diddles on two toms in descending arrangement of pitch (high to low).
- Keep single taps on toms while placing diddles on snare drum.
- Place diddles on snare and single taps on cymbals (reverse procedure).
- Place diddles on tom and single taps on cymbals (reverse procedure).
- Combine and make use of all combinations.
